Learning away from home: the EdUHK’s Int’l Summer Program at CCS
The College of Social Sciences (CSS) has offered international summer programs since 2010. The program is aimed to bring students from different countries to come together on the campus of NCCU to experience fantastic days to have an outlook about Taiwan and share their views toward the one in their countries in the special designed packages. The packages include English-taught courses in the field of media, politics, economy, society, education, history, and culture, and several well designed field trips for students to enhance the gained knowledge.
CSS has worked with the Faculty of Social Sciences of Hong Kong University and Education University from Hong Kong (EdUHK) on this program for 6 years especially the Department of Social Sciences (SSC) at EdUHK. The students have been benefited a lot from this program. So this year, we are glad to have the students studying at the Department of Science and Environmental Studies (SES) to join us. There are around 80 undergraduate EdUHK students from 12th June to 6th July. The coming EdUHK students were divided into 2 sessions by department. Each session spent about 2 weeks to discover Taiwan through the packages on politics, economy, society, and environment with the special designed field trips to non-profit organizations, government units, and cultural attractions in northern Taiwan.

In the warm welcome speech given by Dr. Chiang, Dean of CSS, he hopes through this program we would enhance our partnership between sister colleges and would like EdUHK students to be benefited from this program. Dr. Lien, the Associate Dean at CSS, also mentioned we have invited guest speakers or lecturers of professional expertise in this summer program and he hopes all students would be benefited. He also hopes students can explore the attractions in Taiwan to have wonderful and unforgettable memories from the multiple Taiwan cultures during this stay.
Dr. Zhao from the SSC in the EdUHK expressed the gratitude about the given support and assistance from CSS for this program so that students could experience the NCCU campus life during this stay and fully learned the different features between Hong Kong and Taiwan. The EdUHK student preventatives, Lau, Ka Yi and Ng, Ka Lok, they are deeply impressed by the 1-day trip in Wulai. It is the first time to learn the indigenous culture and experience the way of their living by the simply designed Hunter activities. They also felt amazed and impressed by the natures in Taiwan.
CSS holds the international summer programs and had built up mutual academic exchanges and visits with the Faculty of Social Sciences of Hong Kong University, Education University from Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and have had the total number of more than 600 students from Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, United States, and Japan. This year, we also set up the International Affairs Office and expect to promote more multiple international programs, develop more partnerships with the overseas universities and institutes, enlarge our global social impacts, and bring CSS locals students more international experiences.
