Graduate grants are awarded in order to encourage graduate students to concentrate on their studies or research and help departments (graduate institutes) implement their teaching, research, and administration. All applications must be submitted to the department (graduate institute) to which the applicant belongs within one month after each semester begins. Only first- and second-year master's students and doctoral students in their first, second, or third year are eligible to apply.
The CSS began administering the Mr. Luo Zhiyuan Scholarship and the Mr. Zhu Jianmin Scholarship in 1993. In addition to the several Mr. Luo Zhiyuan Scholarships reserved for Department of Political Science students and the several Mr. Zhu Jianmin Scholarships reserved for Department of Diplomacy students, there is the availability for three to five students additional CSS students. The alumni association of the CSS offers the Mr. Zhang Weiyi Scholarship for Outstanding Students from Low-Income Families (one scholarship is reserved for one Department of Land Economics student) to current full-time NCCU students. In addition, dozens of other scholarships are available for students to apply at NCCU.
Award recipients are required to provide assistance to meet different temporary, occasional, and irregular needs of various units of NCCU. The number of NCCU-wide awards is contingent on the work-study budget of individual academic years. All departments, graduate institutes, and other units may submit an application to the Office of Student Affairs. Award decisions shall be made and awards shall be issued after a meeting is held by the Work-Study Awards Review Committee to review all applications one month prior to the first semester of each academic year.
